Alden & Harlow’s chef Michael Scelfo is gearing up to open a new restaurant in Harvard Square this summer, and he popped into the Food & Wine test kitchen to preview a taste of what diners can expect at Waypoint when it opens at 1030 Massachusetts Ave.

A video of the demonstration, which streamed live on Food & Wine’s Facebook page yesterday, shows Scelfo cooking up clam cakes. "Waypoint is gonna be a fun place," Scelfo said in the video. "It’s really kind of an ode to all the things we love about New England summer."

Scelfo mentioned that he and his family love to go up to Woodman’s in Essex, MA to eat fried clams, oysters, and other delicious items — like clam cakes, which Scelfo will do a version of at Waypoint. "One of my favorite ways to cook is to take classic dishes using all these great ingredients that we get from the New England area and do our version of it," Scelfo said.

Waypoint is set to open later this summer and recently held a job fair to hire for front- and back-of-house positions.
