A cafe from the Catalyst team, logically dubbed Catalyst Cafe, is apparently in the works for the development at 75-125 Binney St. in Cambridge's Kendall Square, according to the agenda for an upcoming licensing hearing. Catalyst chef/owner William Kovel is mentioned on the agenda, which indicates that the cafe could have seating for 46 (as well as a six-seat seasonal patio). If approved, it may operate between the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.
Payette, the architectural design firm behind the two-building development on Binney Street, mentions a "public cafe" in the plans. The future cafe is meant to "serve as an all-season amenity space to building occupants, neighboring residents, and visitors to the future Rogers Street Park."
The Catalyst team is keeping quiet on details at this point, with a rep only confirming that Kovel and his team "are in the planning phases for a new venture."
Catalyst (300 Technology Sq. in Kendall Square) opened in late 2011 following the 2009 closure of Aujourd'hui at the Four Seasons, where Kovel was chef de cuisine. His resume also includes experience on the West Coast and in London, and Catalyst's menu reflects that combination, focusing on dishes made with local, sustainable ingredients and a tinge of European style.
