Drink Cold Brew Matcha at Tea Bar by EvyTea, Now Open in JP

And there's an adorable herb garden

Tea Bar by EvyTea softly opened its doors yesterday at 253 Amory St. in Jamaica Plain, and tea lovers will find an initial line-up of iced tea offerings: black tea with strawberry and basil, white tea "mojito" (with lime, mint, and honey), cold brew matcha with honey, an unsweetened ceylon black tea, and an unsweetened decaf rooibos. The menu will expand in the future. (Don't expect much food, but there will generally be a couple small snacks available. Today, there are alfajores and Boston Bonbon macarons.)

The space, which used to be a car shop, features seating for 10 inside; there's an array of salvaged tables and chairs. When the weather's nice, snag a spot in the herb garden outside, which has room for a few more people. Keep an eye out for the cannon.

"Through a simple menu and warm decor, I'm hoping this is somewhere people will feel comfortable coming in, drinking tea, asking questions, and talking about things," founder Evy Chen previously told Eater. In fact, Chen plans to eventually host classes and events in the space. The giant shelving units that separate the front of the space from the back are on wheels and can be pushed back to create a larger space as needed.

While the brick-and-mortar location is brand new, EvyTea has been around since 2012. Chen cold brews her tea, a method meant to produce a less bitter beverage than tea steeped in hot water. The EvyTea product line can be found at Whole Foods.

Current hours for the tea bar are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday.
