Downtown Crossing welcomed a new restaurant last week, with Sweetgreen officially opening the first of five new locations it has planned for the Greater Boston area. The Washington D.C.-based chain started serving specialty salads to the neighborhood following a grand opening at 13 School St. on May 6.

The restaurant kicked off business at 10:30 a.m., with its spring menu in full swing. Proceeds from the day were donated to The Food Project. Sweetgreen joins a newly opened Clover on School Street.

Sweetgreen will open four addition locations around Boston in the coming months. It has locations secured at 132 Brookline Ave. in Fenway, 87 Summer St. in Downtown Crossing, 354 Harrison Ave. in the Ink Block development in the South End, and 39 JFK St. in Harvard Square.
