From time to time, Somerville's Union Square plays host to various types of pop-up dining experiences. Last summer, for example, the Union Lunch series brought local vendors into the heart of the square for fun Friday lunches, complete with live music and a bit of shopping. (No word yet on whether the series will reappear this summer.) Kitchen Inc., a shared kitchen space, used to host events at 201 Somerville Ave., and it's where Union Square Donuts opened its first retail space back in early 2013. And very soon, Foundation Kitchen, a culinary incubator, will debut its new space at 3 Washington St., where it will host cooking demonstrations, pop-up restaurants, and more.
Add one more example to the list: The Somerville Arts Council is hosting Flavor Lounge, "a global pop-up dining experience," at PA's Lounge each Saturday in June from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. (or while supplies last) — a good post-farmers market stop. PA's Lounge, a music venue and bar at 345 Somerville Ave., used to serve food but stopped around 2010.
Each week, a different participant in the Somerville Arts Council's Nibble Culinary Entrepreneurship Program will come to PA's Lounge — keep an eye out for Venezuelan arepa plates, Filipino barbecue, Colombian empanadas, and Somali shawarmas. (There will be vegetarian options each time.) Food will generally cost between $8 and $13 per person, with tickets available at the door.
