A former pub in Dorchester will get new life under a slightly different name. Lower Mills Tavern is getting ready to open soon, taking over the space at 2269 Dorchester Ave. where The Lower Mills Pub operated for more than 30 years, according to Boston Restaurant Talk.
Dropkick Murphys frontman Ken Casey and business partner Brian O'Donnell purchased The Lower Mills Pub in April of 2015, as previously reported, making the name change known and sharing some plans for the restaurant, including the goal of serving an affordable menu of comfort food, including flatbread pizzas and burgers.
Casey and O'Donnell planned to update the space with the help of O'Donnell's wife, interior designer Taniya Nayak. Casey also owns McGreevy's on Boylston Street and a restaurant in Providence called Whiskey Republic.
Lower Mills Tavern is looking to hire additional employees ahead of its opening.
Eater has reached out for more details on the menu and renovations and will post an update when the information is available.
