It's opening night for The Hopewell Bar & Kitchen (1277 Commonwealth Ave.) in Allston, according to Doug Bacon, president of Red Paint Hospitality Group. The group also includes White Horse Tavern, The Avenue, and several other venues, and it previously operated Shanghai Social Club in the space now occupied by The Hopewell. Shanghai closed in late 2014.
As previously reported, the team aims for The Hopewell to be a casual, neighborhood-oriented spot that will attract area residents multiple times a week. The accessible menu includes grilled pizzas, sandwiches, and other crowd-pleasing entrees, like chicken pot pie and steak frites. Chef Mitch Wilcox has previously worked at other restaurants in the group. On the drink side, the beers are American, and the cocktails highlight bourbon.
With seating for about 100, The Hopewell also offers pool, shuffleboard, and arcade games.
The restaurant opens at 6 p.m. tonight, but starting tomorrow, it'll be open from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. daily. Weekend brunch will launch in a couple of weeks, beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
