A South Boston staple for summertime snacks halted its plans to open a second location on the South Shore. Last spring, Sullivan's on Castle Island made some moves to pursue a new location at the Hingham Bathing Beach off Route 3A, but it has since had a change of heart, according to Boston Restaurant Talk.
The seafood shack has been a Boston staple since it opened in 1951 and is still operated by its namesake's family. Summer revelers set their clocks by the seasonal activity of Sullivan's, which opens in February and closes for winter in November.
Scores flock to the fast-food restaurant every year, forming long lines for its coveted (and cheap) hot dogs, lobster rolls, french fries, and ice cream. Now that Sullivan's has put the kibosh on an expansion, South Shore hot dog lovers will have to keep making the trip up to Southie to delight in snacks at this solo iconic location.
Eater has reached out to Sullivan's for more details on this change of plans and will post any updates.
