A new kind of Irish pub will debut in Brookline on Thursday, moving into a long-vacant space along a highly trafficked street. Waxy's Modern Irish Bar + Kitchen took over the former Mission Cantina space at 1032 Beacon St., and will bring to Brookline a reimagining of the traditional Irish pub, featuring a menu full of contemporary Irish cuisine, draft beers, and cocktails.
This new Waxy's is the seventh New England location for the Waxy O'Connor's restaurant family, owned by Paul McKenna. On the food side of things, guests can have a taste of any number of Irish entrees, from pork and leek sausage and fingerling mash to Magners Irish cider-seared salmon. There are also dishes like seafood stew, ale-battered fish, and burgers.
As for beverage options, Waxy's will feature the stylings of James O'Brien, a native of Ireland, including cocktails, more than 40 draft lines, and a weekly rotating craft beer list. The restaurant will also serve weekend brunch and cocktails, and it will have an outdoor patio with the opening coming just in time for a burst of nice weather.
Waxy's will be open from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 1 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
