A new Greek restaurant is set to open in Somerville on Wednesday. According to its owner, Kyriakos Kouzoukas, Opa Greek Yeeros is ready to start serving up fine Greek food at 378 Highland Ave. in Davis Square.
The restaurant has been in the works since last fall, when it was announced that it would move into the former Kickass Cupcakes location. Opa Greek Yeeros aims to serve traditional gyros like you would find in Greece, Kouzoukas told Eater in a previous interview.
He said the restaurant would have three vertical spits for chicken, pork, and lamb and beef gyros, with a Chipotle-style ordering system where guests can choose from a range of toppings including Greek yogurt, imported honey and nuts, and more. The base for the gyro can be either a pita or platter. Yogurt and tzatziki will be made in-house.
Kouzoukas is also working to open a doughnut shop with partner Christos Poutahidis, landlord for both the Highland Avenue building where Yeeros will open this week and the space planned for the doughnut shop at 377 Summer St.
