A short-lived South End restaurant known for peddling all manner of chicken dishes will not reopen as planned; instead, it will come under new ownership, as Boston Restaurant Talk reported. Chef Brian Poe (Tip Tap Room, Poe's Kitchen at The Rattlesnake) has handed off the former Cluckit space at 782 Tremont St. to a new owner, according to a rep.
Cluckit (styled as CLUCKIT!) was a reinvention of Estelle's (a Southern-style eatery), which Poe and his group first opened in 2012. Cluckit closed back in October to make way for another reinvention, but those plans have been scrapped.
Instead, a new restaurant called MIDA is seeking approval from the city to open at the same location with a 2 a.m. closing hour. According to a page on the City of Boston's licensing board site, the person behind the restaurant is Douglass Williams, who has worked at Radius and Coppa, along with Michelin star-rated restaurants in New York and Paris.
Meanwhile, Poe has a new project in the works in South Boston.
