While a place called Johnny Cupcakes seems a prime location for sugary desserts, no such thing has come out of the doors of the 279 Newbury St. shop. Until now, that is. The t-shirt "bakery" known for its cupcake-and-crossbones logo is teaming up with Union Square Donuts to bring the Somerville bakery's famed "doughies" to Back Bay, according to Boston Magazine.
Union Square Donuts doughies are "like our donut holes, but fancier and grown-up," as the shop explains in a post on Instagram. The delicacies are made from brioche doughnut dough and typically covered in glaze and sprinkles, with some rotating specials.
Johnny Cupcakes posted about the partnership on Twitter, noting that these treats could be rolling out of the Back Bay store by May 14.
GREAT meeting w/ @UnionSqDonuts today! If all goes as planned, we begin selling donuts at @JHNYCPKS_Boston May 14th! pic.twitter.com/jnWxPyodtj— Johnny Cupcakes (@JohnnyCupcakes) April 14, 2016
Union Square Donuts could be looking for more places to pop up around the city, in addition to its new temporary satellite in Inman Square.
