A Washington D.C.-based salad chain with five existing locations in Massachusetts opens the first of its five planned new restaurants next week, bringing bowls and bowls of greens and grains to Downtown Crossing.
Sweetgreen opens at 13 School St. on May 2, and the proceeds from its opening day will go towards The Food Project to fund the building of community gardens in Boston. The new location joins others in Back Bay (two locations), Fort Point, Chestnut Hill, and Lynnfield, all of which source local and seasonal ingredients to create hearty bowls of goodness for customers.
The chain has plans to open four other locations in the area, including one at 132 Brookline Ave. in Fenway, another in Downtown Crossing at 87 Summer St., at 354 Harrison Ave. in the Ink Block development in the South End, and one across the river at 39 JFK St. in Harvard Square.
This new restaurant is just down the block from a newly opened Clover.
UPDATE: The story (and headline) have been updated to reflect the new opening date of May 2, not the previously reported date of April 22.
