70-year-old North End bakery Mike's Pastry is making it a trio — it expanded to Cambridge's Harvard Square in late 2014, and it'll open at Somerville's Assembly Row development next. Details are scarce at the moment, but the opening is tentatively slated for 2017. It will be one of the tenants among the 100,000 square feet of retail and dining space on the ground floor of the Partners building. The bakery will likely have both indoor and outdoor seating.
Mike's will join another North End classic at Assembly Row: The pizzeria Ernesto's expanded to the Somerville development in fall 2014. The ever-growing Assembly Row also includes numerous other dining options, from local brands like Fuji and Somerville Brewing Company to bigger chains like Earls Kitchen + Bar and Outback Steakhouse.
Founded in 1946, Mike's Pastry — with its recognizable bright blue logo and tied-up white boxes — is one of the best-known Italian bakeries in town, known especially for its cannoli and lobster tails.
