At a meeting for Dedham's Board of Selectmen Monday night, more than 50 residents turned out to express their disapproval for a proposed license transfer from the former Summer Shack to a restaurant known for its female waitstaff, wings, and iconic owl logo, according to Wicked Local.
Hooters, one of America's foremost "breastaurants," reportedly has plans to open its fourth Massachusetts location mid-May and is seeking to acquire its liquor license from Summer Shack, which closed last year. Hooters has other Massachusetts locations in Shrewsbury, West Springfield, and Saugus.
Residents who attended the meeting brought along a petition bearing more than 500 signatures objecting to the addition of a Hooters in Dedham, Wicked Local reported, noting that Summer Shack's former chef and owner Jasper White defended Hooters as a "sports bar."
The board will review the transfer request over the next few weeks.
Another breastaurant with a side of Scottish flare faced similar opposition in Quincy, where a local church put up a fight against the restaurant's plans to open. Instead, Tilted Kilt landed on a location in Fenway, where it is set to take over the former Copperfield's space on Brookline Avenue. Tilted Kilt is also opening in Billerica.
