A bakery and cafe is set to open in a historic building in Fields Corner as early as next Monday, March 7, if it passes inspections. Home.stead Bakery & Cafe posted word on its Facebook page that it was due to undergo a fire inspection and hoped to be granted the go-ahead to open to the public shortly.
Home.stead, located in the Lenane Building at 1445 Dorchester Ave., set about fundraising money to open with a Kickstarter campaign last March, as previously reported.
The people behind the concept are Elisa Gerard, the baker; Vivian Girard, the business person; and Jack Wu, a non-profit executive. The goal of the place is for customers to "feel comfortable and compelled to sit and stay, eating alongside their neighbors," according to the website. Additionally, the owners will hire locally and host community events in the space.
Home.stead recently held a celebration at the bakery to thank its donors.
Thanks Lou & Rose for sharing your gorgeous voices with us during our thank you party for our biggest donors.

When it opens, the bakery will serve a range of breakfast dishes, including homemade granola, steel-cut oat porridge, muffins, and bagels, plus sandwiches, pressed panini, salads, soups, and sides. There will also be coffee, tea, cider, and Fentimans English sodas.
Fingers crossed for our fire inspection tomorrow. If all goes well, we hope to open next Monday!
