Pizza could finally return to a storefront on Hanover Street in the North End if the City of Boston licensing board grants the request of manager Warren Mustacchio for a beer, wine, and malt liquor license for his restaurant, Ben Cotto.
In July 2014, Mustacchio received support from the North End/Waterfront Neighborhood Council in July 2014 to turn the space at 361 Hanover St. back into a pizza place. The storefront had served as a flower shop converted from the old Circle Pizza, which had been in business for nearly 50 years.
Mustacchio later went before the licensing board in May 2015 with his plans to open the restaurant. The space is right next to Giacomo's Ristorante, a North End favorite. Mustacchio proposed a space that would accommodate 40 seats, plus a dining counter. Now, the description says Ben Cotto will have a "retail space in one room on first floor dining," with a kitchen in the back and a midnight closing time.
A hearing on Mustacchio's petition for this liquor license will be held next Wednesday, March 16.
