A modern Irish bar set to fill an empty space on Beacon Street will aim to open around Patriots' Day, according to Boston Restaurant Talk. Waxy O'Connors — which has regional locations in Woburn, Foxborough, Lexington, Kingston, and Keene, NH — is working on its newest location in Brookline at 1032 Beacon St. where Mission Cantina used to be.
If it sticks to its timeline, Waxy's could kick off its opening with packs of Marathon-watchers, as the route passes right by the restaurant on its way to Kenmore Square.
Waxy's pub-style menu features Irish-inspired dishes like Guinness beef stew, lamb shepherd's pie, fish and chips, and baked haddock. Assorted appetizers like Irish nachos, calamari, and Irish sausage rolls are also on the menu, as well as salads, burgers, sandwiches, flatbreads, and more.
A job posting on Craigslist last month indicates that the company is hiring for this new Brookline location and has further expansion plans for the pub.
