A local restaurant group has finalized plans to open up its latest project in South Boston. Boston Nightlife Ventures — the same people behind Wink & Nod, The Tap Trailhouse, and Griddler's Burgers + Dogs — will open the Certified Meatball Company at 429 West Broadway sometime this summer. The space was previously home to fast-casual Windmill Food Factory.
The restaurant's focus will be on bringing "globally inspired meatballs" to the Southie neighborhood, and the overall concept derives its inspiration from "nostalgic memories of top quality food & produce found in the local butcher shops of our youth," according to BNV's website.
Plans for the meatball venture have been in the works for nearly a year, with word coming out last April that the original target location was Elm Street in Somerville. Certified Meatball Co. secured a liquor license back in August and has now found its true home on Broadway.
In addition to showering Southie in meatballs, BNV plans to open Southern Kin, a Southern-style cookhouse and bar at Assembly Row. There are also plans to open a permanent space for Akinto, a Southeast Asian concept that previously held a six-month residence at Wink & Nod in the South End. It will take over the former Merrill & Co. space, right next door to Wink & Nod.
