Get ready to feel like a kid again: Boston's getting a peanut butter & jelly pop-up, Packed PB&J. It's the brainchild of Matt Marini, a manager at Hojoko and founder of Pineapple Crossing, a group aimed at providing restaurant industry folks with the opportunity to participate in a variety of charity and community-building events and organizations.
Marini's sandwiches will make their debut at Hojoko's next industry night on Tuesday, February 16, from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. (and there'll be $3 Backlash Beer as well). Beyond that event, Marini is in talks with a couple other venues and hopes to pop up again in late March.
The pop-up simply boils down to his "love for a PB & J sandwich," Marini says. "They're really nostalgic for me. Appeal to all ages with many so many different diets. There isn't much history behind them, but from everything I've researched, the origin seemed to happen a bit organically, and that really intrigues me. I plan to do different spins on them with house-made butters, jams, jellies, and other fun ingredients. Plays on the classics."
