Central Square is home to a shiny new Chinese restaurant. Shanghai Fresh opened in the old Picante Mexican Grill space, according to a Chowhound user.
Picante closed in July after more than 20 years in business, making room for Shanghai Fresh at 735 Massachusetts Ave. According to a licensing application for Shanghai Fresh, the restaurant is set to accommodate about 45 seats inside, plus about 16 on a seasonal outdoor patio. It will also serve beer and wine.
A Yelp user reported being the first customer to ever eat in the restaurant, which apparently opened on January 30. The Yelper described the menu as "very nice and authentic Chinese food" and particularly enjoyed the sweet and sour pork chops.
Correction: A previous version of this story reported that Shanghai Fresh was connected to Shanghai Gate in Allston, but this does not appear to be the case.
