A swanky new restaurant makes its debut today within the Godfrey Hotel in Downtown Crossing, courtesy of the team behind the popular Yvonne’s nearby. Ruka sails into Boston this evening, bringing with it a menu filled to the brim with Peruvian, Japanese, and Chinese-inspired dishes.
Partners Christopher Jamison and Mark Malatesta, along with culinary director and partner Tom Berry, joined forces with Oishii chef/owner Ting Yen to bring the neighborhood Ruka. The cuisine leans heavily towards Latin America, as previously reported, featuring Peruvian dishes along with Japanese-Peruvian (nikkei) and Chinese-Peruvian (chifa) influences. With that comes a sushi menu, courtesy of Yen and sushi chef Bing Liu, as Boston Magazine reported.
Ruka’s menu includes dishes such as crunchy salmon tacos, Lima-style fried calamari, halibut ceviche, veggie fried rice, spicy tuna rolls, and tea-smoked duck, among many others. Will Thompson — the beverage director for Yvonne’s and for the team’s other restaurant, Lolita Cocina & Tequila Bar — will bring his talents over to Ruka, and Yvonne’s pastry chef Liz O’Connell has some items to offer up at Ruka as well.
Ruka will be open seven days a week from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m., with dinner available until 11 p.m. and late-night sushi available until midnight.
