A Boston restaurateur whose family has years of experience running area restaurants has taken over a restaurant in the North End. Nick Frattaroli, who owns Ward 8 at 90 N Washington St., is now in charge of Gennaro’s 5 North Square and has plans to update the restaurant.
Frattaroli will bring in Ward 8’s bar manager and general manager Mike Wyatt to oversee the cocktail and bar program at the 5 North Square restaurant, according to a rep. Frattaroli plans to close the restaurant for renovations next month and will reopen the place in the spring. He reportedly aims to make the menu and atmosphere fun and lively.
Frattaroli gained the neighborhood council’s support to transfer the Gennaro’s liquor license, as North End Waterfront News reported. The restaurant will likely retain the 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. hours seven days a week, and it will serve local seafood, among other offerings.
Update, 2/20/17: The new restaurant will be called North Square Oyster, and it’s slated to open in April. Follow along on Instagram for updates.
