A gelato shop set to open in Downtown Quincy next year just launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund the purchase of some serious gelato-making equipment. Café Gelato is working towards a February opening in the West of Chestnut development at 21 Chestnut St., and this fundraising campaign will allow the owners to fill the cafe’s kitchen with all the necessary tools to feed gelato to the neighborhood.
Café Gelato is the work of owners Denise Santini, Giancarlo Baldini, and Daniele Buzza, who plan to serve Italian gelato along with pastries, sandwiches, salads, and coffee, as previously reported. Plans for the cafe include seating for 40 within 1,778 square feet of space, and the Kickstarter indicates that the buildout will begin this month.
Café Gelato is attempting to fundraise $40,000, or 12 percent of the total estimated cost of building out the space and acquiring the necessary equipment to make and store the gelato, plus some extra coffee-making tools. The items include a batch freezer, an emulsifier, and a blast chiller, and Café Gelato will offer frozen rewards plus coffee cups, hats, and shirts for those who donate to the Kickstarter before January 9, when the campaign ends.
Café Gelato will join a handful of other restaurants at Quincy’s West of Chestnut development, including the newly opened KKatie’s Burger Bar, Fuji, and a few more retail entities.
