A new cafe has quietly settled itself into Brookline Village and officially opens its doors today. The newest location of Caffe Nero is situated at 1 Harvard St. near the Brookline Village MBTA stop, and the cafe will be handing out free cups of coffee today, as is custom for the first day of business for each new location.

Caffe Nero is a London-based coffee shop that has carved out its own place among Boston’s coffee shops. In addition to this new Brookline cafe, there are nine other Caffe Nero locations around Greater Boston, including in Wellesley and Andover. Another location opened recently in Downtown Crossing, in the Burnham Building at 10 Summer St.

Caffe Nero in Brookline Village is located near a handful of other dining and coffee spots, including Starbucks and Dunkin’ Donuts, as well as Cutty’s, Orinoco, and Magnolia Smokehouse, among others. The cafe will dole out free coffee today until 3 p.m. and will begin its regular hours starting tomorrow (6:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays and 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekends).
