A tried and true lunch spot on Boston University’s campus has shut down after a long tenure, according to the Boston Globe. The iconic Campus Trolley (665 Commonwealth Ave.) served salads, falafel, and kebab wraps for nearly 30 years, but its owners decided to close down due to potentially expensive changes that would be required to keep up with city regulations.
Nadim and Diana Kiwan have been manning the Lebanese food trolley since 2001 when they purchased the business from family members who leased the campus spot from the university in 1988. They told the Globe that new city regulations would require adding either in-ground plumbing or wheels to the red wooden trolley to continue operating, but the high costs and challenges in doing so led them to the decision to close. Campus Trolley served salads, soups, wraps, and more.
