Two veterans of longtime Cambridge restaurants will launch their newest venture this weekend on the edge of Kendall Square. East Coast Grill founder Chris Schlesinger and B-Side Lounge alum Dave Cagle are set to open their new neighborhood spot, The Automatic, on November 19, debuting a menu of bar snacks, sandwiches, cocktails, and much more.
This dynamic duo dropped the news of The Automatic in February of this year, telling Eater at the time that the goal was to create a "fun neighborhood place" at 50 Hampshire St. that would bridge the gap between Kendall Square itself and the surrounding neighborhood.
Cagle developed a long list of classic cocktails for The Automatic, including an eponymous martini made with gin and lemon-thyme brine. There will also be beers on draft and in cans, and Schlesinger’s nephew, Tom Schlesinger-Guidelli, who worked as opening general manager for Island Creek Oyster Bar, has the wine list covered, as previously reported.
Food-wise, the "bar snacks" include bread and butter pickles, a "frito pie from hell," jerky, and fried plantains, and there will be french fries done up three ways: standard, funky, and freaky. Expect to see sandwiches, burgers, and frankfurters with a wide range of trimmings and trappings, along with mussels, shrimp, wings, and pork schnitzel.
The main menu is now available on The Automatic’s website and will be offered until 10:30 p.m., at which point the kitchen will switch to the late-night menu that will be available until 11:30 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 12:30 a.m. Friday and Saturday.
