Davis Square will soon overflow with warm bowls of oats. A new oatmeal-focused cafe will be moving into a storefront on College Avenue, bringing to the neighborhood customizable oatmeal bowls, coffee, tea, and snacks to go. Oat Shop’s founder Alan Donovan has popped up with the concept at The Middle Gray in Brookline and at The Somerville Flea over the last few months in preparation for opening his own cafe. Now he's estimating a late November opening.
Donovan secured the 22A College Ave. spot earlier this fall, and he is working on a quick buildout of the space ahead of the opening. Oat Shop puts oatmeal center stage, elevating the "old fashioned" breakfast food’s status with customizable toppings and signature seasonal specials.
When Oat Shop opens, expect to see such options as a Sriracha fried egg, apricot, and almond butter bowl; toppings such as salmon, avocado, caramelized onions, and pumpkin seeds; and other items, including Counter Culture coffee, MEM Tea, grab-and-go snacks, and more. The cafe will be open for breakfast and lunch seven days a week, likely from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekends.
