Last month, word came out that a hybrid cafe/bar in Allston would close at the end of September, but those plans have since changed. Refuge Cafe did not shut down its operation at 155 Brighton Ave. but instead remains open for the foreseeable future, according to a post on the cafe’s Facebook page.
On October 6, Refuge posted: "Hey Guys So For The Time Being, We Are Open. And for the Foreseeable future," as Boston Restaurant Talk noted. Refuge was originally set to close on September 30, as previously reported, to much dismay of the neighborhood crowd, which posted a spate of messages to that effect below the announcement, which was also made on Facebook.
The cafe is known for hosting open mic nights and installations from local artists, and it has a menu full of breakfast sandwiches and burritos, tofu bowls, lunch wraps, club sandwiches, and eggplant fries, amid a selection of coffee beverages, tea, and beer.
