FoMu Premium Alternative Ice Cream and Cafe will expand to 655 Tremont St. this spring, Boston Magazine reports, with the opening tentatively slated for May. Previously an art gallery, the space already features high ceilings, exposed brick, and hardwood floors.
The original location debuted in Allston in 2012 (481 Cambridge St.), followed soon after by a Jamaica Plain outpost (617 Centre St.) The cafes serve vegan ice cream (which is also certified kosher), espresso, tea, baked goods (vegan and also catering to a variety of allergies), and more. The ice cream is also available at numerous vegan-friendly establishments around town, including Life Alive, Veggie Galaxy, and Red Lentil — and FoMu's wholesale arm provides ice cream to numerous Whole Foods and other stores around Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
Fomu's dairy-free ice cream — an "untraditional doppelganger" — comes in flavors like chocolate pudding, malted cookie dough, avocado, salted caramel, and sweet lavender.
