Shanghai Moon is now open in Medford, in place of Asia Palace at 442 Salem St. Asia Palace closed for about three months, and in addition to the new name, the restaurant has an updated interior, larger bar, and an expanded menu, co-owner Leo Wu said.
Shanghai Moon, which Wu co-owns with his brother-in-law, Shawn Peng, a Shanghai native, offers more sushi than its predecessor. But overall the restaurant's menu is similar to Asia Palace's, which is large and includes both Chinese and Japanese dishes. With new special rolls named for the Bruins and Celtics, Shanghai Moon also intends to become more of a sports bar. The team plans to host live entertainment on Friday and Saturday nights, Wu added.
Wu's parents previously ran the restaurant, and Wu was in charge of a Weymouth outpost of Asia Palace. He bought the Medford shop when his parents retired, and he sold the second location. He plans to focus on Shanghai Moon for now, he said.
Shanghai Moon's hours remain the same as the previous restaurant's. It is open daily from 11:30 a.m. - 10 p.m. (11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday nights).
