The Denver-based Smashburger chain has had a Medford location in the works for more than a year, and a new update indicates the branch is still slated for an October debut.
Smashburger is looking for cashiers and cooks for its storefront in the Fellsway Plaza at 495 Riverside Ave., according to a job listing posted yesterday. The cooks at the new location — and at all Smashburger restaurants — will flatten loosely-packed, Angus beef meatballs down for 10 seconds on a buttered, flat-top grill, to release the meat's juices and allow the burger to cook in the liquid. The burgers are seasoned and seared to order, Smashburger's website indicates.
In addition to the smashed burgers, the chain offers chicken sandwiches, veggie burgers, salads, and sides including garlic-rosemary "Smashfries," haystack onions, and fried pickles. It also serves Häagen–Dazs shakes in frosted glasses.
Prior to the early October opening target, the new employees could train for a couple weeks at Massachusetts' two existing Smashburger locations in Natick and Westwood.
