As rumored last week, Shake Shack is indeed coming to Boston's Seaport District, the company announced today. Its fifth Massachusetts location will open in 2017 at Watermark Seaport, a mixed-use development at 85 Seaport Blvd. Watermark is currently leasing "tower and loft residences" for fall 2015, and the development includes 23,500 square feet of retail space.
As previously reported, the new opening is next door to 101 Seaport, another soon-to-be-completed building that will be home to a new location of Medford-based Yoki, a Japanese restaurant and sushi bar. Chipotle will also reportedly open at 101 Seaport, but the company has not yet confirmed the news. Both buildings are part of a larger development dubbed Seaport Square, which encompasses 23 acres of the waterfront.
Shake Shack is a rapidly growing New York-based, fast-casual chain that offers burgers, shakes, and more. After opening its first Boston-area location at The Street in Chestnut Hill in 2013, the company has added locations in Harvard Square in Cambridge, Legacy Place in Dedham, and Newbury Street in Boston.
