A taste of Italy is coming to the edge of the Mystic River. Italia di Gusto is set to open up this September at 24 High St., Boston Restaurant Talk reported via @TheBostonFoodie and InsideMedford.com.
Italia di Gusto will be stocked with imported cheese, salami and other meats, jams and marmalade, pastas, coffee, balsamic vinegar, and "the best olive oil."
"It’s like coming to Italy if you enter into this shop," franchise co-owner and Italy native Francesca Ronzio told InsideMedford.
There will be prepared Italian dishes, too, and a big draw will be the pizza. A fifth-generation Neapolitan pizza chef is joining the team in Medford, and his oven will be imported from Florence, the Medford news site reported. The chef also has a teaching degree, and education will be a part of Italia di Gusto's mission. "You can have fun and taste something good … but at the same time maybe learn something to try in the kitchen at home," Ronzio said.
Ronzio and her husband, Matteo, moved to the U.S. in February to open Italia di Gusto. The Medford location overlooks the Mystic River where Bestsellers Cafe operated for 17 years before it closed this past January.
The Italian chain has one other franchise in the U.S., in Ridgewood, N.J.
