Legendary South End restaurant Charlie's Sandwich Shoppe closed last summer after an 87-year run, but soon after, Evan Deluty, chef/owner of Stella in the South End, announced his intention to buy it and reopen it in 2015, keeping the menu the same.
According to a new document from the licensing commission, Deluty and his wife Candice (as Max Restaurant, Inc.) are now applying for a common victualler's license for the space at 429 Columbus Avenue, and it appears that the new restaurant, likely opening in the not-so-distant future, will simply be called Charlie's. They're applying for a capacity of 30 seats and permission to be open as early as 6 a.m. and as late as 2 a.m., a departure from the old sandwich shop's dinner-less hours.
UPDATE: The DIG caught up with Deluty and reports that Charlie's will open around Halloween, featuring much of the same food and decor as before.
