Jamaica Plain got a new taqueria last week. Chilacates opened at 224 Amory St. last Saturday, July 18. The 10-seat shop offers tacos, burritos, quesadillas, and tortas, with grilled chicken, carne asada, lengua, fish, and more, including breakfast options. The tortillas are homemade, and generally, early reviews have come out strong for the quality, freshness, and authenticity of the food. One early assessor also praises the prices: Amid $2.99 tacos and $5 - $7 burritos, only one menu item costs more than $7.99.
Owned and operated by Socrates Abreu, Chilacates is named for a chile pepper predominantly used in Jalisco, Mexico. It is still filling out its web presence; Chilacates hasn't claimed its Facebook page or built a website yet. But the small taqueria is active on Twitter and has a few photos posted on Instagram. The shop is licensed to open from 8 a.m. - 10 p.m. daily, but Yelp currently lists its hours as 11 a.m. - 10 p.m.
