For hungry Somervilliains in the Union Square/Spring Hill area, the lunch scene is heating up with some new options:
CAPONE FOODS — The Italian specialty shop quietly introduced sandwiches a few months back, just at the Somerville location (14 Bow St., Union Square). They're only available from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. (or while supplies last) on weekdays, one kind per day, made on Clear Flour's Rustic Italian bread. Consult the menu to see which sandwich will be available each day. Offerings include pork belly, meatballs, and more.
7ATE9 BAKERY — The recently opened bakery, which specializes in mini cheesecakes, has just added sandwiches to the menu. Check on Facebook for updates about availability. Today's sandwich is roasted chicken with arugula, maple balsamic, local peaches, and goat cheese on six-grain and pumpkin seed bread. The bakery is located at 199C Highland Ave. in Spring Hill, near the Armory.
In other Somerville lunch news, Union Square is hosting Union Lunch on Fridays from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. through September 18, right in the heart of the square, featuring different local vendors each week. There are tables and chairs, music, and plenty of things to eat. Today, for example, there's food from Cantina La Mexicana and The Galley Ice Cream, music by The Wild Edibles, and Fluff shirts for sale from Union Square Main Streets.
