A possible location has been announced for one of two planned Tilted Kilt outposts in the greater Boston area: The "Scottish Hooters" could replace the last Max & Dylans in Billerica, which recently shuttered, Boston Restaurant Talk reports. There's a public hearing about Tilted Kilt's permitting on June 17.
Max & Dylans, a Legendary Restaurant Group brand (Sip Wine Bar + Kitchen, Scollay Square, Papagayo, Burger Dive), served a comfort food menu heavy on sliders and macaroni and cheese at three Massachusetts locations. The Charlestown branch shuttered in spring 2013, followed that summer by the closure of Max & Dylans in Downtown Crossing. Both locations were replaced with the restaurant group's Mexican food brand, Papagayo. (That Charlestown restaurant recently moved to Saugus.) Max & Dylans held out in Billerica for some time, but a BRT tipster pointed out that it went dark in the past couple weeks.
Tilted Kilt is a Vegas-born, Arizona-based sports bar chain where employee uniforms include sexy plaid kilts and coordinating push-up bras. The Celtic-themed pub has about 100 locations in the U.S. and Canada. Tilted Kilt was proposed for Quincy in 2012, but opposition from a local church buttoned that up. The Billerica location and a Fenway franchise, both slated for fall 2015, will be the first in Massachusetts.
The menu features pub fare, including Irish nachos smothered in Guinness beer cheese; mozzarella sticks; "kilt burner" wings; and "big arse burgers." There are also 24-plus beers on draft at every Tilted Kilt.
