It was a long time coming, but Rina's Pizzeria & Cafe is finally debuting on Hanover Street this week, NorthEndWaterfront.com reports. An exact opening date isn't yet confirmed, a company rep said.
Rina's is the latest venture from Nick Varano, and the concept was originally planned in 2013 as a permutation of the Varano Group's Strega brand. In January, signage went up at 371 Hanover St. announcing the new nomenclature, but Rina's was still nearly half a year out. Perhaps the group got sidetracked by the opening on its ritzy Back Bay steakhouse, Strip by Strega, which arrived on the scene in April.
The new pizzeria is located next door to the original Strega restaurant in the North End, and it takes its name from Varano's daughter. Under management of Luigi DeMarco, Rina's has a customized brick oven that will fire up a menu centered on specialty pizzas. There will also be sandwiches, arancini, beer, wine, espresso, and prepared food to go, North End Waterfront reports.
Stay tuned for more information on Rina's debut.
UPDATE, 6/10/15: Rina's will open on Monday, June 15, according to a press release sent out today, which describes a focus on pizza, pasta, and panini from executive chef Salvatore Firicano. (Also, there'll be personal-sized dessert pan pizzas.) Rina's will be open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily.
