Braintree is getting a new Mexican restaurant this summer: Cielo is hoping to debut in mid-July. Boston Restaurant Talk first reported the new eatery in March and posted new details this week, courtesy of the Braintree Forum.
The Braintree license commission unanimously granted Cielo a common victualler's license and a permit for full alcohol service. The restaurant will be located along the Monatiquot River at 1209 Washington St. and will seat 58 inside, with an additional 16 on an outdoor patio. A former tenant of the space, Viola Restaurante, had a riverfront patio, BRT notes, but the Forum article doesn't specify that Cielo's patio will be on the water.
Owner Roberto Leon and manager Guadalupe Fuentes are in charge, according to the Forum. The new Mexican eatery is a family affair, and the clan behind Cielo hails from Jalisco, according to a post on Facebook. Expect a solid list of tequila offerings, as the agave spirit also comes from that Mexican state.
