It's opening day for Committee, a Mediterranean-inspired small plates restaurant from Cafeteria and Bijou Nightclub owner George Aboujaoude. Located around the corner from the recently opened Babbo on Fan Pier, part of the Seaport District, the 5,500-square-foot restaurant fits 320 people in a variety of ways, including bar seating (and standing), communal high-tops, a lounge, private dining, and a roomy patio, which has its own tiki-inspired cocktail menu (including pitchers). Want to reminisce about the good old days at Anthony's Pier 4, which was located a third of a mile away? Look for Committee's tall banquettes between the bar and the lounge area — they're made from reclaimed wood from Anthony's.
It's all about sharing at Committee; the menu (see below) is simply divided into "cold meze" and "hot meze" — small plates. Consulting chef Diane Kochilas will be bouncing between Boston, New York, and Greece — Committee is just one of many projects for the prolific cookbook author, television host, teacher, and chef. Sofra and Oleana alum Geoff Lukas will be holding down the fort as chef de cuisine.
On the beverage side, Budapest native Peter Szigeti, who has worked everywhere from Russia to Japan, will be playing around with carbonation, fun garnishes, and fancy glassware.
Here's the opening dinner menu:
Committee opens at 11:30 a.m. daily, serving lunch until 2:30 p.m. on weekdays, brunch until 3:30 p.m. on weekends, and dinner 5 p.m. until midnight, plus a late-night menu until 1:30 a.m.
