Estelle's closed on Memorial Day for two weeks of renovations, but Boston Restaurant Talk noted today that the Southern comfort food restaurant won't reopen for another week — and when it does, it will be called Cluckit!
A tweet and photo show that new signage has replaced Estelle's facade on Tremont Street, and the bar posted it will reopen June 15 with "cold beer & hot chicken!!!"
Wilcox Hospitality Group opened Estelle's in 2012 with "kind of Gulf Coast style" cuisine from chef Brian Poe. The name came from a restaurant and club formerly located nearby the South End establishment.
At this point, it's not known how much the menu will change when the restaurant reopens as Cluckit! A Twitter user teased that there better be a brisket po' boy, an Estelle's offering, awaiting his return, and the quip earned a "favorite" from @EstellesBar. While Estelle's has always offered buttermilk fried chicken, as well as hot wings, hot chicken — as promised in the note to customers — is a specific type of dish, originating in Nashville, that the restaurant has previously not had on its regular menu.
