The Tres Gatos and Centre Street Cafe team is opening a Mexican restaurant at 711 Centre St. in Jamaica Plain, the former home of Ghazal Indian Cuisine, as previously reported. Now, Jamaica Plain News shares more details about the upcoming restaurant, including a name (Casa Verde) and a taco-filled sample menu presented at a neighborhood council meeting.
In an earlier press release, the team described the restaurant as a "casual, family-friendly Mexican eatery" with tacos and ceviche, and the sample menu continues along those lines, offering numerous taco options ($3-$5), a few ceviches ($5-$7), and some entrees ($11-$17).
The focus is meant to be on "traditional" Mexican cuisine, not Tex-Mex, co-owner Keith Harmon explained at the meeting, as reported by JP News. Expect tortas but not burritos, for one thing.
Casa Verde will have a beer, wine, and liqueur license and 58 seats. While the council supported a 1 a.m. closing time, the team plans to close earlier than that, at least in the beginning, likely serving the full menu until 10 p.m. on weekdays and 11 p.m. on weekends. It could open around October or November 2015.
