After more than seven years in a subterranean location, a Mediterranean restaurant in Back Bay has closed for good. April 5 was the final day for Vlora.
Boston Restaurant Talk noted the closure thanks to a Chowhound user. In a September post, the blogger said Vlora sought to transfer its food and alcohol licenses to Yamato II, which would be a second location of a Brighton Japanese restaurant. Yamato's website currently doesn't indicate anything about a second location.
The Vlora team is leaving the door open for a potential new project, according to a Facebook response to a dejected customer. When asked if they would open a new place, "Stay tuned..." was the reply.
Vlora was opened by Aldo Velaj, a native of Vlora, Romania, in 2007. It focused on cocktails and the Mediterranean flavors that Velaj grew up with. Menu items included a watermelon and feta starter, vegetable mousakka, lamb chops, shrimp with spicy couscous, and a lamb kafta gyro.
