Allston's Lone Star Taco Bar has been teasing East Cambridge taco lovers about its upcoming expansion for 11 long, taco-less months. The latest update: "We are hoping to be open in the next few weeks (first week of June)," announces a job posting on Craigslist seeking applicants for various back-of-house positions.
The restaurant shared a promising construction photo on Instagram yesterday. The space at 635 Cambridge St. used to be home to Lizzy's. Co-owner and beverage director Max Toste recently explained to Eater why the process has been taking a while: the space needed a gut renovation, and then the first design for the restaurant felt "cramped and weird," so the team had to go "back to the drawing board," and then there were holidays and a particularly terrible winter.
Lone Star Cambridge will be a little bit larger than its big sibling in Allston, offering 65 to 74 seats, plus eventual sidewalk dining, compared to Allston's 48. The menu will be fairly similar: "I felt like it was something we already did well, so why screw it up?" Toste previously said. But there will be a few additions to the Cambridge offerings, like a torta and a Sonoran-style fried, bacon-wrapped hot dog.
On the beverage side, expect to see a rose and sherry on draft, some "funky" white wines, about 60 agave spirits, and a large beer list focusing on the dry end of the spectrum.
