Leave it to a group of Harvard grads to develop a dessert that's not actually bad for you. Just Bananas Ice Cream is a low fat, lactose-free, vegan confection that comes in flavors such as chocolate hazelnut butter and almond butter chocolate chunk, but Cambridge Day reports it contains no added sugar: The base of the product is just bananas. The fruit is naturally high in pectin, so Just Bananas has a creamy consistency, despite having zero lactose or added binding agents, its website explains.
Launched earlier this month in Cambridge, Just Bananas is produced in western Massachusetts, and is currently available at Market in the Square in Harvard Square and Foster's Supermarket in Greenfield. There's an opportunity to try the fruit-based ice cream this weekend when when it pops up in retail and sample form at Clover Food Lab in Inman Square. There will be free samples and prizes. The pop up is on Saturday and Sunday, May 2 and 3, from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.
