An 'East Asian Soul Food Diner' From David Punch Is Coming to Newton

Chefs Alison Hearn and Daniel Scott are on board.

David Punch has a new restaurant coming to 1247 Centre St. in Newton, just down the street from his Newton Centre restaurant Sycamore, as previously reported. Now, a few more details have emerged. The yet-unnamed, 20-seat restaurant will be an "east Asian soul food diner meets izakaya," Punch told The Boston Globe, referring to a casual type of Japanese bar. Speaking of the bar, the new spot will have cocktails on draft.

Punch tapped Sycamore sous chef Daniel Scott as executive chef, who will helm "a tiny micro kitchen" that anchors the restaurant. Fare will be small plates, dumplings, bun, noodle soups, and rice bowls. Alison Hearn (HustleCat, Myers + Chang), with whom Punch worked at Ten Tables Jamaica Plain, is also on board, running the new concept. It'll be open until 1 a.m.
