Ocean Prime Is Solidifying Its Boston Expansion Plans

The seafood and steak chain will find out tomorrow if the licensing board will approve its purchase of a liquor license.

National seafood chain Ocean Prime announced a few months ago that a Boston location was in the works for 100 Pier 4 (142 Northern Ave.), slated to make up part of a new building on the former Anthony’s Pier 4 space in the Seaport District. Tomorrow, the company will find out if the Boston Licensing Board will let it buy the liquor license from Mantra, a restaurant that used to be open in Downtown Crossing, Universal Hub reports.

Ocean Prime plans to spend $3.8 million building the approximately 312-seat restaurant, which will also have a patio that fits about 28 diners, and it could open next winter, serving weekday lunch and daily dinner. The seafood-and-steak chain debuted in Columbus, Ohio in 2006; there are now 11 locations, and another will open in New York City before the Boston one arrives.
