Fields Corner will have a new sweet spot when Chill on Park opens May 1. Owner Wendy Issokson said her team is finishing up some details in the 1,100-square foot space and will open at 11 a.m. next Friday.
"My mission is to really have a comfortable place in the neighborhood where people can come hang out, meet friends, and treat themselves," Issokson said. Located at 142 Park St. in Dorchester, Chill on Park is right across the street from the Doherty-Gibson playground, and Issokson is looking forward to being open during Little League season. An added bonus for parents: The 19-seat ice cream and coffee shop will have free WiFi.
Issokson also wants to be a community partner, she said. Chill on Park recently hired eight young people from the Boys & Girls Club of Dorchester, whose training starts tomorrow. Issokson also plans to work with students from the Louis D. Brown Peace Institute.
Chill on Park will source homemade ice cream from Puritan Ice Cream Company in neighboring Roslindale and will offer frappes, ice cream pies, and hand-packed pints and half-gallons. The shop will make its own hot fudge sauce and whipped cream, Issokson said. It will also offer locally-sourced baked goods, smoothies, MEM teas, and a menu of espresso and coffee drinks with beans roasted by Karma Coffee in Sudbury.
The shop will be open daily 11 a.m. - 7 p.m., with hours extending to 9 p.m. after Memorial Day.
UPDATE: An earlier version of this post said Chill on Park will be 11,000 square feet. Eater regrets the typo.
