Olecito Brookline Closes in Preparation for Brand Expansion

The Cambridge-based "fast fresh" Mexican spot will be the brand's testing ground.

The Brookline location of Olecito has closed, reports Boston Restaurant Talk. Owned by chef Erwin Ramos, Olecito Brookline opened at 6 Cypress St. in 2010 as the second location of the fast-casual Mexican takeout spot. It followed Olecito Cambridge, located across Springfield Street from Ramos' upscale Mexican eatery, Ole. Both Inman Square restaurants remain open.

The Ole Restaurant Group's website says the Brookline location closed for good as of Tuesday, March 31, ironically so that Ramos and team can focus on expanding the Olecito brand. The statement says the plan is to refresh the Olecito concept and open multiple new locations in 2016. (A New Bedford location already opened up a few months back.) Olecito Cambridge will serve as the literal test kitchen for new ideas this summer.
